Software Engineer – Insyte
I joined Insyte in March 2007, since then I have been working in “Source Data Receipt and Assessment (SDRA) and the Hydrographic Database (HDB) Interface” for the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO).
These two systems, SDRA and HDB, are intended to cooperate to support the UKHO’s business as two parts of an overall system. Source data is received, filed and georeferenced using SDRA. It is also assessed for its impact on UKHO’s current products, copies of which are stored electronically in SDRA. The HDB is intended to capture geographical information to support future generations of UKHO products.
I am originally from Spain and have been living in the UK since 1999, and from a professional point of view I have found in Insyte a very challenging environment where there is always something new to learn. On a personal note, everyone here has been very nice and friendly, thus making Insyte a great place to be!

Software Engineer – Insyte
I remember by first week with Insyte vividly. I started work at 9.00 Tuesday morning where I was introduced to my manager and briefed on the project I would be working. By lunchtime the following day I found myself wandering around an RAF base at the other end of the country meeting my first customer!
I joined the company as a direct to job graduate working on a small project called MASE or Modular Airspace Synthetic Environment, which is an Air Traffic Control simulator used by the RAF for training. The small size of the MASE team proved to be very beneficial for me as I’ve been able to follow various aspects of the simulator from initial design, through implementation and finally to acceptance at the customers site. It has been particularly satisfying to have one of my own ideas for the simulator realised and used by the RAF. After having worked on the project for the past 17 months I’ve amassed a large amount of ATC knowledge and on numerous occasions have been called upon to present MASE to various people including Major General David McDowall MBE of the British Army at the formal opening of the Hutton building here at the Hillend site of Insyte near Edinburgh.
More recently I have changed projects and am now working on the Maritime Composite Training System (MCTS) for the Royal Navy. Despite having only been on the project for a few weeks I’ve already had the opportunity to add two more programming languages to my toolbox and am continually acquiring new domain knowledge which will assist me throughout my career with BAE Systems.
